BEFORE YOU BOOK
The questions we hear most.
What does the callout fee cost, and do I get it back?
The callout fee is A$99 and it covers a licensed plumber coming to your door, inspecting the job and writing you a fixed price on the spot. If you accept the quote and go ahead, we take the A$99 off your invoice, so you only pay once for the actual work. You only lose the fee if you decide not to proceed after seeing the price, which covers our time and the trip out to your place.
Will I get a fixed price before anyone starts work?
Yes. Once we've had a proper look at the job, we write the price down in full before anyone picks up a tool, and that's the number on your invoice at the end. We don't charge by the hour and we don't add surprise line items once the job is underway, so you can say yes or no to the actual cost, not an estimate. If the job turns out more complex once we're inside a wall or under the house, we stop and requote before continuing, rather than running the cost up without telling you.
How fast can you get someone to my place?
Most Northern Beaches callouts are same-day, and a good number are within a few hours of your call, depending on where you are and what's already booked in. Tell us when you ring whether it's urgent — a burst pipe, no hot water, a gas smell — and we'll move you up the run ahead of routine jobs. For non-urgent work like a bathroom renovation quote, we'll usually book a time that suits you within a day or two rather than rushing someone out the same afternoon.
What counts as a plumbing emergency, and is pricing different?
A burst pipe, a gas leak, a toilet that won't stop overflowing or a hot water system that's died are all emergencies in our book, and they go to the front of the queue any time, day or night. A dripping tap or a slow drain is a real job, but it can usually wait for a normal booking rather than an after-hours callout. Either way, you get the same fixed-price promise — we tell you the number before we start, whether it's 2pm on a Tuesday or 11pm on a Sunday.
Do you cover my suburb?
We work right across the Northern Beaches, from Manly up through Mona Vale, Dee Why, Avalon, Narrabeen and Palm Beach, and everywhere in between. If you're not sure whether your street falls inside that run, call 02 9000 1234 and we'll tell you straight away rather than have you guess. We don't service suburbs outside the Northern Beaches, so we can keep callout times tight and actually turn up same-day instead of promising it and failing to deliver.
What if my hot water fails at 10pm or on a Sunday?
We run emergency plumbing 24 hours a day, seven days a week, for a hot water system that's died, a burst pipe or a gas leak, and we don't make you wait until morning. After-hours jobs still get a fixed price before we start, not a guess that grows once the sun's down. If your hot water's gone on a Sunday night, call 02 9000 1234 and tell us what's happened — we'll let you know how soon we can be there.
What are your regular trading hours?
Our regular hours for bookings, quotes and scheduled jobs are Monday to Friday, 7am to 5pm, and Saturday, 8am to 12pm. Outside those hours — nights, Sundays and public holidays — we switch to emergency plumbing, available 24 hours a day, seven days a week, for burst pipes, no hot water and gas leaks. Call 02 9000 1234 any time and we'll tell you straight away whether your job fits a normal booking or needs an emergency callout.
What does clearing a blocked drain cost?
Blocked drain clearing starts from A$220, and we confirm the exact number after a quick inspection of what's actually blocking the pipe. If the clog's further down the line or hiding a root intrusion, we can run a camera through the pipe to find the real cause before quoting rather than guessing from the surface. You'll have the full price in writing before we touch the drain, and you can see more detail on what's included on our blocked drains page.
How much does a new hot water system cost, installed?
A straightforward hot water system replacement starts from A$1,450 installed, and the final number depends on the unit you choose and what's already connected at your place. That price covers removing the old system, fitting the new one and making sure it's connected and compliant, not just the unit sitting in a box. We quote the whole job, start to finish, before you commit to anything, so there's no second invoice once the old tank's out of the garage.
Are you licensed and insured?
Yes. We're a licensed plumber and gasfitter under NSW licence 123456C, and every job we carry out on the Northern Beaches is done under that licence, from a tap washer to a full bathroom renovation. Being licensed means the gas work, the hot water installs and the drainage work all meet the standards a council or an insurer will ask about later. If you'd like to see the licence before booking, ask us when you call and we'll talk you through it.
What happens if something goes wrong after you've left?
Every job we complete is guaranteed for 12 months, covering our workmanship on the work we did. If something related to our work isn't right — a fitting weeps, a drain blocks again at the same point — call us and we'll come back and fix it at no extra cost, not add a second invoice on top of the first. That guarantee applies whether the job was a A$220 drain clear or a full bathroom renovation.
Do you do gas fitting, or just plumbing?
We're licensed gasfitters as well as plumbers, so we handle gas appliance installation, gas leak repairs, gas cooktop connections and compliance work across the Northern Beaches, under the same licence as our plumbing work. That means one team can rough in the gas line for a new cooktop and connect the water to the same renovation, instead of you booking a plumber and a separate gasfitter for one job. If you can smell gas, treat it as an emergency and call us straight away rather than waiting for a normal booking.
Can you manage a full bathroom renovation, not just a repair?
Yes. We quote bathroom renovations as one fixed price for the whole plumbing side of the job — moving or adding drains, running new water lines, fitting the toilet, shower, bath and vanity — so you know the total before any tiles come off the wall. We work alongside your builder or tiler where you've already got one, or can recommend trades we know on the Northern Beaches if you haven't. Either way, the plumbing price is locked in writing before demolition starts, not adjusted once the old bathroom's in a skip.
How do I actually get a quote?
Call 02 9000 1234, email hello@harbourplumbing.example, or fill in the form on our contact page and tell us what's going on and where you are on the Northern Beaches. We'll book a same-day callout where we can, inspect the job, and give you a fixed price on the spot before any work starts. If it's an emergency — a burst pipe, a gas leak, no hot water — say so when you call and we'll move you to the front of the queue.
